Abstract: The article presents different versions of the origin of Old English vocabulary: Christian impact, Asian, Persian the languages of Pehlvi and Zend, as well as Latin. Old English vocabulary is typical of mixed nature, religious and nonreligious, with predominance of the religious character. Old English manuscripts, including sacred ones, originate from mythology and folklore.
