Abstract: The article is devoted to the study of the image of Kuyrismadzog in the demonology of Ossetians. The study includes an etymological analysis of the name Kuyrismadzog, which provides a key to understanding the archetypal image, as well as a comparison of Kuyrismadzog with other demonological characters and its functional proximity to shamanic practices is determined. The transformation of this image from a shamanic archetype to a demonological entity under the influence of Christianity and Islam is analyzed.
