Abstract: The article investigates the method of approximation of the source experimental data containing errors due to both the operation algorithm of the measuring equipment and the nonlinear nature of the various thermal processes occurring in the working machine. At the initial stage of processing the source data obtained from the results of a natural thermal test, it often becomes necessary to perform a smoothing procedure for these data. Approximation allows smoothing the source data and thereby significantly improving their quality, as well as obtaining calculated values suitable for further calculations of the kinetic or dynamic characteristics of the thermal processes occurring in the machine tool. The method is tested on the solution of the model problem. The task is solved by means of mathematical processing of temperature indexes of structural elements of the machine in the given zones.

Key words: thermal testing of machines, measurement results, processing error, approximation, smoothing.
