Abstract: One of the major public health issues of the twenty-first century is obesity, which is linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular and metabolic disorders. The gut microbiota's function as a crucial regulator of energy balance has drawn a lot of scientific attention in recent decades. The methods by which the gut microbiota affects the development of obesity are summarized in this article. These mechanisms include energy extraction, the creation of short-chain fatty acids, metabolic endotoxemia, the regulation of the gut barrier, the metabolism of bile acids, and the interaction between the stomach and the brain. There is also discussion of the potential for microbiota-oriented treatment approaches.
