Abstract: The study provides a comparative analysis of the performance of nested virtualization using hypervisors of the second type, VMware Workstation and Oracle VirtualBox, running on a virtual host deployed running VMware ESXi. The purpose of the study is to evaluate how resource allocation and hypervisor architecture affect the efficiency of virtualized environments in conditions of increasing workload. The experimental setup used identical guest configurations with Windows Server 2016 and used PassMark PerformanceTest to measure processor, memory, disk subsystem, and 2D graphics performance. The results showed that the performance of both hypervisors decreases when working with multiple parallel virtual machines: VirtualBox provides higher processor and disk bandwidth, while VMware Workstation demonstrated excellent performance with 2D graphics and memory. The results indicate trade-offs when using different hypervisors for specific workloads and emphasize the need to take into account the impact of nested virtualization when designing virtual infrastructures or performing resource-intensive modeling.
