Abstract: This article investigates the performance of virtual machines running under VMware Fusion and Oracle VirtualBox hypervisors on the Apple MacBook Air M2 platform with the ARM64 architecture. Comparative tests were conducted to evaluate key performance indicators, such as CPU and RAM, using the PassMark Performance Test for Linux benchmarking tool. Special attention is given to analyzing the performance of hypervisors when increasing the number of simultaneously running virtual machines, allowing for the assessment of their efficiency under RAM deficit conditions. The testing results reveal differences in scalability and resource management, providing recommendations on choosing the optimal hypervisor based on performance requirements and usage scenarios on modern Apple Silicon-based platforms.
Key words: virtualization, VMware Fusion, Oracle VirtualBox, Apple Silicon, macOS, ARM64, hypervisors.
