Abstract: The scientific novelty of this article lies in its first comprehensive scientific analysis of the historical and legal foundations of the revival, development, and transformation of the Cossacks (from the 15th to the 21st centuries). The work examines the formation of legal foundations, the stages of the formation of the legal status of the Cossacks in historical and legal retrospect, the role of the Cossacks in the formation and development of civil society in the Russian Federation, and the prospects for the development of the Cossacks in modern Russia. Analysis of these provisions allows us to create a comprehensive picture of the process of Cossack revival in the present day.
