Abstract: In the article, the authors draw the attention of readers to the fact that we have summarized the results of the study of the origin of the Cossacks, their social organization and the relationship of the first free Cossack communities with the Russian state and the development of Siberia and the Far East in the context of the role of the Cossacks in this great colonization movement to the East. For this purpose, analytical essays and materials of registered mass documentary sources and their chronological thematic registries of records, selected by us from the expense books of the Treasury Department, were used.
