Abstract: in the article the authors In conditions when the total fertility rate in Russia fell below the level of simple reproduction of the population about half a century ago and, at the same time, a number of titular peoples of Russia have not yet completed the demographic transition, the relevance of such a transition is beyond doubt. The authors enter in their article the adjacent field of migration, demography and ethnology, which creates ethnic balance in Russia. We consider the problem at the global, country and regional levels, especially focusing on the retrospective description of the studied migration, ethnic and demographic processes. The importance of their spatial characteristics at the level of the post-Soviet space, Russia and its regions is studied and demonstrated. The combination of the "language of numbers" widely used in the article - an abundance of statistical material - with the assessment of the studied migration demographic and ethnic processes increases interest and cannot leave readers indifferent. The article also reveals the specifics of migration, which plays a special role in the socio-economic life of society and is a process that, on the one hand, is very sensitive to changes in the life of society, and on the other hand, is an important factor that has a significant impact on the formation of dynamic and structural parameters of these changes.
