Abstract: the article provides an assessment of the tourism potential and tourist attractiveness in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The author analyzed the assessment of the tourist attractiveness of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug based on the performance of collective accommodation facilities in 2018–2023. Recommendations are offered for solving problems and improving the development of tourism in Yamal. The article provides an analysis of the tourism infrastructure in the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation as a restraining factor for the formation of the competitiveness of domestic Arctic tourism on the world stage. It is concluded that, despite the attractiveness of natural resources, transportation costs do not allow tourists with an average income to visit the Arctic, and for elite tourists, service is insufficiently developed. Potential opportunities for the development of tourism infrastructure in the Russian Arctic in accordance with regional characteristics are noted. The article analyzes the results of the 25th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2022), which was held in St. Petersburg from June 15 to 18, 2022, on the formation of a popular tourism environment, taking into account the Arctic problems that were discussed at the past event. Among them are the current problems in the activities of the Arctic Council, issues of developing the Northern Sea Route, shipbuilding and ship repair in the Arctic, ensuring security in the region by the forces and means of the Russian Emergencies Ministry, the state and prospects for the construction of the international Arctic station "Snezhinka", problems of education and training. Particular attention is paid to increasing the role of science, scientific and educational centers in making strategic decisions on the development of the economy, social and spiritual sphere of the Arctic territories. It is noted that at the Forum, for the first time, the heads of the Arctic subjects of the Russian Federation successfully presented investment projects of their regions in order to advertise a popular tourism environment.
