Abstract: The article is devoted to performance testing of virtual machines using VMware Workstation and Oracle VirtualBox hypervisors on Windows OS. The study developed a comprehensive methodology for testing the performance of key system components (processor, RAM, disk subsystem, 2D graphics) under various loads (1, 2 and 3 simultaneously running virtual machines). An analysis of absolute performance indicators and normalized values relative to the host system was carried out. Fundamental architectural differences in virtualization approaches have been identified: VMware demonstrates a strategy focused on maximum performance of critical components, especially the disk subsystem (up to 34.2% of host performance) and 2D graphics (up to 75.4%), while VirtualBox focuses on efficient memory management (up to 74.8% of host performance). The hypothesis about the nonlinear nature of performance scaling with an increase in the number of virtual machines has been confirmed. Based on the results obtained, practical recommendations are formulated for choosing a hypervisor depending on specific tasks.
