Abstract: In message 1, the authors consider quality as a philosophical category, the genesis of the category of "quality" that determines various stages of its understanding, as well as the points of view of various philosophers on the definition of this category. The essence of such aspects of the category of "quality" as "social quality", "product quality", "service quality", "management quality" is revealed. The approaches of various researchers to the study of such multifaceted concepts as "need", "value", "satisfaction" are presented and the relationship between quality, needs and satisfaction of consumers is revealed. Quality covers all aspects of our life and is one of the main factors in the development of society. The origins of its study go back far to ancient times. In the works of Aristotle, the concept of "quality" acquired a categorical status and for many subsequent centuries determined the development of thought in this direction. Russian philosophers of the XIX-XX centuries also paid much attention to the problems of quality, emphasizing its value significance and systemic nature. Essential in this approach was the connection of quality with spirituality, development of personality, formation of the "new economic man", quantity, and the fate of Russia. This shows that the category of "quality" is a multifaceted concept and includes many aspects.
