Abstract: Based on the integration of three psychotherapeutic areas (transactional analysis, psychoanalysis, cognitive behavioral therapy), behavioral models in psychotherapy of six types of "complex" clients were analyzed and patterns of countertransference were identified. Countertransference was presented as a diagnostic tool that allows recognizing the patient's personality structure and choosing appropriate therapeutic strategies. The countertransference reactions described in the article can serve as a practical guideline for the therapist, helping him to improve his professional competence when working with difficult categories of clients.

Key words: Difficult clients, transference, countertransference, personal adaptations, psychotherapy.
